The 24 Hour Goose

What: The 24 Hour Goose

When: Saturday, June 25-26 2016
                  -8:00 a.m. start, 12 & 24 hour race
                  -8:00 a.m. start, 24 hour, 2-4 person relay
                  -8:00 p.m. start, 12 hour night run

Where: Wascana Park, Regina, SK, Start/Finish is in the Marina Parking Lot
Note: All participants MUST be members of the Marathon Matters Club ($15), which provides insurance coverage for its members. No membership, no participation--no exceptions. http://www.marathonmatters.ca/membership

This race is otherwise free, though donations as noted below are strongly suggested. We organize races like this because we want to provide race opportunities for locals, and we want to be able to give back by being involved in the sport we love.

Overview:

This will be a "fat-ass style race", meaning that you are responsible for keeping track of your progress and for your own support during the event (e.g., water, energy drink, etc.). Between us and other volunteers some water & food may be available, but do not count on us for any of your needs. It'll be a nice surprise if there's something... and our running community has always been generous with donating food and drink... We also plan to have some volunteers available to help over the course of the event, but keep in mind that this is intended as a low-key race. Racers should expect to keep track of their own laps (see below), but we do intend to have volunteers to help with this task.

We've designated this as a 12/24 hour race, but realize that some people will want to run/walk for less time or for a longer period. No problem! You can run/walk for as much or little as you wish.

There is no registration fee, but we ask that you donate in support of The Pack Project, a Regina based animal rescue and support group. This group does incredible work to support rescues across the province by distributing food and supplies. Last summer, for example, during the forest fires up north they collected and distributed thousands of pounds of food for dogs and cats left behind. You may donate directly to The Pack Project (http://www.thepackproject.ca/donations.html) or bring supplies (food, toys, or other items) and/or money to the race for us to drop off for you. If you donate to them directly, please send them an email to tell them you donated as part of our race so that we can keep track of our impact: thepackprojectvolunteers@hotmail.com; copy us as well: ceriegel@yahoo.ca.

Over the last few years, our runners have donated hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food as well as numerous toys, bones, and treats which were donated to the Regina Humane Society and The Pack Project.

Thanks to all the generous donations from participants of past races for the generous donations that we've collected through this informal series!!

All runners must register. We are only allowing 50 runners on course at one time, so spots will be limited.

Details:

1. Start and finish times are as follows:

-the day-time 12 hour race will start at 8:00 a.m. on June 25th, 2016, and end at 8:00 p.m.
-the 24 hour race, and 24 hour 2-4 person relay, will start at 8:00 a.m. on June 25th and end at 8:00 a.m. on June 26th, 2016
-the 12 hour night race will start at 8:00 p.m. on June 25th, 2016, and end at 8:00 a.m. on June 26th, 2016

2. The 24 hour relay allows 2-4 people to complete as many laps as they can or wish. Only one racer per team allowed on course at one time.

3. We will provide a briefing at 7:45 a.m. so that we are all clear on the course as well as lap and time counting procedures.

4. The course is expected to be a 4 k.m. flat paved course. Details will be available as soon as we have our permit in hand.

5. This will be a primarily self-supported event.

6. We expect to have bathrooms available that are located approximately 75 metres from the start/finish line.

7. This is a timed race. You are free to run or walk as many or few laps as you wish and you are free to leave the course so long as you rejoin where you left off. It is not uncommon for people in longer races like this to take breaks when needed.

8. Prior to the race start, you will be assigned a number to help keep track of laps completed and your name and number will be noted on the lap counting and timing sheet. This sheet will be kept at the start/finish line: it is your responsibility to keep track of your laps--check off each lap as you pass the start/finish line. If we have sufficient volunteers, we will assist with lap counting.

9. We will ask you to sign a simple waiver of liability prior to the start. The race is being conducted primarily on paths open to the public so please ensure that you are aware of the others around you, be they on foot, bike, or other.

10. Pacers are allowed for 24 hour racers starting at 8:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you out there! The Goose Bumps: Chris Riegel, Katherine Robinson, Jen Ruland, Jon Paradowski, Cari Bode Watson

The "It's Not a Race" 6 Hour Goosebump Race

What: The "It's Not a Race" 6 Hour Goosebump Race

When: Saturday, June 13, 2015, 6:30 a.m.

Where: Wascana Park, start/finish line is at the Marina parking lot
***if for some reason the Marina lot is being used for another event, the Pine Island lot will be our start/finish line (straight across the lake from the marina on the south side)

We've designated this a 6 hour race, but realize that some people will want to run/walk for less time or for a longer period. No problem! We will ensure that there is someone at the start/finish line for 6 hours. If you stay out there longer, for your finish distance and time to be recorded, email us the details. Simple!

There is no registration fee, but we ask that you donate in support of Diabetes research. Regina runner and Marathon Matters member Kelly Munce is raising money for Diabetes research as part of his participation in the Munich Marathon on Team Diabetes: http://t.co/pQ5TQayRdK

Kelly has agreed to man the aid station at the start/finish area and will no doubt do so in his inimitable style!

Also in keeping with the tradition established in other Goosebump race, we will be collecting donations for local animal rescue groups and we would love it if you brought along something suitable for dogs or cats (food, toys, or supplies).

Last year our runners donated hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food as well as numerous toys, bones, and treats which were donated to the Regina Humane Society and The Pack Project, which supports animal rescue organizations across the province.

Thanks to all the generous donations from participants for the various groups we've supported through this informal series!!
Pre-registration not required but let us know if you think you will be coming as it will help to have an idea of numbers. ceriegel@yahoo.ca

Details:

1. The 6-hour race will start at 6:30 a.m. on June 13, 2015 in the parking lot beside the marina in Wascana Park. Alternate start area is in the Pine Island lot in case the other one is not available,

2. We will provide a briefing at 6:15 a.m. so that we are all clear on the course as well as lap and time counting procedures.

3. We have measured the course using a number of different methods and have concluded that the 4 km distance that the Wascana Authority claims for the pathway around the lake is pretty accurate, so each completed lap will be considered as 4 km. See notes below.

4. We have measured out a 550 metre out track (1.1 km out and back) that participants can use to complete a half-marathon or marathon (or other set distances) rather than having to complete a full lap in order to get the distance in. I will provide precise details about the track at the briefing. This track should only be used at the end of your race to complete a distance goal, or if you are close to the end of the six hours and do not anticipate being able to complete a full lap by the cut-off.

5. No partial laps will count—other than the 1.1 km out and back portion used at the end of your race.

6. This will be a primarily self-supported event.

7. The bathrooms underneath the Willows restaurant are expected to be open.

8. This is a timed race. You are free to run or walk as many or few laps as you wish and you are free to leave the course so long as you rejoin where you left off.

9. Prior to the race start, you will be assigned a number to help keep track of laps completed and your name and number will be noted on the lap counting and timing sheet. This sheet will be kept at the start/finish line: it is your responsibility to keep track of your laps--check off each lap as you pass the start/finish line.

10. We will ask you to sign a simple waiver of liability prior to the start. The race is being conducted primarily on paths open to the public so please ensure that you are aware of the others around you, be they on foot, bike, or other.

What: 2nd Annual Goosebump 3, 6, and 12 hour Race (*** see note 13 below on the 12 hour option)

When: November 8, 2014, 6:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m., depending on distance chosen

Where: Wascana Park, start/finish line is at the Marina parking lot

Prerace dinner: co-conspirator Gay Renouf is organizing a pay-your-own-way pre-race dinner at Fortuna restaurant. Contact her her to let her know you are going: ultragirl@sasktel.net

Overview:

This will be a "fat-ass race", meaning that you are responsible for keeping track of your progress and for your own support during the event (e.g., water, energy drink, etc.). We will supply some water and nourishment as noted below, but do not count on us for all your needs.

There is no registration fee, but we ask that you donate in support of Diabetes research. Regina runner and Marathon Matters member Kelly Munce is raising money for Diabetes research as part of his participation in the Munich Marathon on Team Diabetes: http://t.co/pQ5TQayRdK

Also in keeping with the tradition established in last year's Goosebump race, we will be collecting donations for local animal rescue groups and we would love it if you brought along something suitable for dogs or cats (food, toys, or supplies).

Last year our runners donated over 100 pounds of dog and cat food as well as numerous toys, bones, and treats which were donated to the Regina Humane Society.

Contact us to let us know you plan to run so we can log you as registered. We will cap the race at 25 participants: ceriegel@yahoo.ca

Details:

1. The 6-hour race will start at 6:30 a.m. on November 8, 2014 in the parking lot beside the marina in Wascana Park.

2. We have decided that 3-hour participants can start at 6:30 or 9:30.

3. We will provide a briefing at 6:15 a.m. so that we are all clear on the course as well as lap and time counting procedures.

4. We have measured the course using a number of different methods and have concluded that the 4 km distance that the Wascana Authority claims for the pathway around the lake is pretty accurate, so each completed lap will be considered as 4 km. See notes below.

6. No partial laps will count—other than the 1.1 km out and back portion used at the end of your race.

7. This will be a primarily self-supported event. We will supply aid as noted in #8, but you should be prepared to supplement that with things that you would usually use in races.

8. We will bring bottled water and three-four 1.5 litre bottles of NUUN electrolyte drink, along with some chips, pretzels, and candy (ultra fare!).

9. The bathrooms underneath the Willows restaurant are expected to be open.

10. This is a timed race. You are free to run or walk as many or few laps as you wish and you are free to leave the course so long as you rejoin where you left off.

11. Prior to the race start, you will be assigned a number to help keep track of laps completed and your name and number will be noted on the lap counting and timing sheet. This sheet will be kept at the start/finish line: it is your responsibility to keep track of your laps--check off each lap as you pass the start/finish line.

12. We will ask you to sign a simple waiver of liability prior to the start. The race is being conducted primarily on paths open to the public so please ensure that you are aware of the others around you, be they on foot, bike, or other.

13. NEW: 12 hour option. For those who would like to try an extended outing consider participating in the 12 hour race! This will be conducted in the truest sense of the fat-ass format: once the 6 hour race is complete, you will be fully responsible for your own support and lap counting. We will check in periodically but will not guarantee that you will receive anything more than that. If you're not sure you want to go the whole 12 hours, why not split your day: do a half marathon first thing in the morning and end your afternoon with another...

Support Active Kids 3 and 6 Hour Run and Walk, June 14th, 2014

What: Support Active Kids 3 and 6 Hour Run and Walk -- In Support of the 100 Mile Club Charity

-this event is in support of the 100 Mile Club and in lieu of a registration fee we request that participants donate through the link below (suggested donation, $25). 100% of all money raised goes to the 100 Mile Club.

-once you have donated, send us an email telling us which category you will participate in so we can log your registration: Christian Riegel & Katherine Robinson, ceriegel (@) yahoo.ca

We are raising money to support the 100 Mile Club, a US-based charity that works to raise awareness about childhood inactivity. We will participate in the Race Across California (the first stage in the Race Across USA) and run 10 marathons in 11 days in January 2015. Between now and then, we will work to draw attention to the 100 Mile Club, create links between the Club and schools in Regina, and get people in our city excited about helping children get motivated to exercise for fun and health. 100% of money we raise goes to the 100 Mile Club (we personally bear all costs associated with our participation in the race itself).*** More information below

Where: Wascana Park, Regina, SK Start and staging is in the parking lot east of the Marina

When: June 14, 2014
                6 Hour Option
                6:15 a.m., check-in and briefing
                6:30 a.m., start
12:30 p.m., all full laps completed by this time will count

                3 Hour Option
                7:15 a.m., check-in and briefing
                7:30 a.m., start
10:30 a.m., all full laps completed by this time will count

                 VIRTUAL OPTION
-if you cannot attend on June 14th, register for the run/walk and carry out an activity of your choosing (a different race/event, an informal activity of any kind, a walk with family). You name it and we will count it and list you as having participated in our event. The main point is to promote awareness of childhood inactivity and to raise funds for the 100 Mile Club.

Course: -the course follows the paved path around Wascana Lake, 4 km
-a 1.1 km out and back section will be marked for those that want to complete a half marathon (do it once) or a full marathon (do it twice) without doing extra mileage

How: - the race will use the lake path as its course; run or walk as many or few laps as you want, but only completed laps count--no partial laps, except the 1.1 km out and back sections as noted above: if the time runs out and you are somewhere on the course, the last completed lap is the one that counts

-this will be a highly informal event, but we will provide water and some ultra-running type nutrition (cookies, chips, pretzels); if you have special needs, please bring them along as you will be able to access your vehicle every lap
-we will track your laps and total mileage
-the pathway will be open so be mindful of other runners, walkers, cyclists, etc.

-complete as many or few laps as you wish! Walk or run, or walk and run, just being active and participating is what counts.

***The Race Across USA is a 140-day stage race across the United States (http://raceacrossusa.org/). It begins January 16, 2015 in Huntington Beach, California and ends 140 days later at the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The goal of this race is to raise awareness about childhood “inactivity”, to raise money for the 100 Mile Club® (http://100mileclub.com/) and to sign up as many schools as possible along the way. Inspired by the 1992 Olympics, special education teacher, Kara Lubin, used the dream of becoming a gold medalist to inspire her hard-to-motivate students. That year, The 100 Mile Club® was born from a simple idea, run or walk 100 miles and earn a medal. With incentives given along the way, including a unique milestone t-shirt, lessons in goal-setting, determination, and team spirit are delivered alongside exercise. The 100 Mile Club® now has over 600 schools in all 50 states (October 2013). This dynamic organization has recently gone international, adding schools in Canada, Japan and New Zealand. Katherine and Christian are currently working to add schools in Regina, SK.

A little about us: Katherine and Christian took up distance running several years ago to challenge themselves and to try to be physically fit while at the same time running for the pleasure of sport. They've run numerous half marathons, marathons, and ultra-endurance events, including several 100 km distances. In preparation for the Race Across California, they will complete further marathons and ultra events, including 100 km and 100 mile distances in 2014.
